The album was originally released in the summer of 1967, following the band's major success at the Monterey Pop Festival. It was then re-released a few months later with two additional songs that originally were only available as an A side/B side single. The album was a minor success peaking in the top 60 and almost producing a top forty hit with the Joplin song "Down On Me". Within a year of its initial release, Big Brother would release their sophomore effort Cheap Thrills which went on to become a massive hit
