Composed in four parts between 1883 & 1885, Thus Spoke Zarathustra is considered a literary masterpiece and the most famous work of German philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche. The work is a philosophical novel in which the character of Zarathustra, a fictionalized ancient Persian prophet-like figure who leaves his mountain home to share his wisdom with mankind. Nietzsche presents in ‘Thus Spoke Zarathustra’ a goal for human evolution & self-overcoming, representing a person who creates their own values rather than following herd morality; a rejection of the traditional systems of religious morality & a vision of a new, higher mode of being, the “ubermensch (Superman),” one of Nietzsche’s most famous & controversial concepts.
