Johnnie To’s two favorite stars, Andy Lau and Lau Ching Wan, vie for the title of “mahjong warrior” in a story involving characters who have nothing else in life but mahjong and make it the goal of their existence to be number one at the table. Fat Choi Spirit depicts the trials and tribulations of compulsive mahjong player Andy and his eccentric family, who rely on him to save them from bankruptcy after they cross paths with a local gangster.
