Synopsis:
In a bleak, economically stagnant Helsinki, a hard-working, dignified married couple find their lives suddenly derailed. Ilona (Kati Outinen), a head waitress at the old-fashioned, elegant Dubrovnik Restaurant, and her husband Lauri (Kari Väänänen), a quiet tram driver, are both laid off in quick succession due to corporate restructuring and restaurant closures. Refusing to succumb to despair or accept charity, they embark on a series of tragicomic, often humiliating attempts to find employment in a harsh, unsympathetic job market. Through a succession of bureaucratic absurdities, financial scams, and dead ends, the fiercely loyal couple clings to their dignity, their dry humor, and each other, culminating in a brave, cooperative venture to open a restaurant of their own.
